This instrument enabled researchers to program the depth of penetration, back up, and then stab the probe through the cell wall rapidly.
Internal features of the glass micro-tube probe driving system are visible in the cover-removed photo below. The housing on the right side of photo is for the LVDT that provides position feedback. The glass micro-tube probe was electrically isolated from the rest of the system by the polycarbonate/UHM polyethylene cam lock probe holder seen in the left of photo. This enabled quick and easy probe exchange.
