Early Developmental Auger Spectrometer

This bit of work featured an internally electropolished UHV work chamber that pumped into the 10^-10 range prior to the first bakeout! The large circular objects are Helmholtz coils that were used to cancel the earths magnetic field. We fabricated the Helmholtz coils, the basic work chamber, and many of the other vacuum related components for this research system.

The photo below shows the work chamber during construction. The internal electropolishing has just been finished and chamber is headed for the lab for assembly as above.
